My love of architecture began when I was working on my photography degree. I was taking Large Format and was given the assignment of photographing a building. Chuck Swedlund, my instructor, said to go and visit the building several times through out the day without even taking a camera. That sparked my passion for capturing architecture. After earning my BA in Photography, I began professionally in 1995 as a Medical Photographer. It was a technically challenging position and it was the technical part of photography that intrigued me to begin with. In 2006 I took on the role of Field Research Photographer in Commercial Real Estate and my skills in Architectural Photography were a big help. I have seen the tools of my trade change since I began but the principles of photography have stayed the same. I have traded 4x5 inch film with a Sinor Bron large format camera for a 24 MP full frame CMOS sensor. Although the technology has changed (and will keep changing) many things have stayed the same: standard photographic principles, the ability to communicate with your client, grasping what they are really looking for and taking your skills & creativity to produce exactly what they need. I like to add to that, giving the client just a little more than they asked for. I have seen more clients over the moon when I spend just 5 extra minutes on their project. When you get to a certain vintage in life (age), clarity becomes very important and in the past couple of years things have become much clearer to me. When you put that clarity along with good communication skills, I feel that you become a much better photographer.
